Laura Butkute

Laura Butkute is a UCLA Law School graduate, licensed to practice law by the California State Bar. Her legal education includes a master’s degree in law from Vilnius University, faculty of law and a master’s degree in law from UCLA School of Law.

Since the beginning of her legal career, elder law has been Laura’s main focus. In addition to estate planning, probate, conservatorship areas of law, she possesses a unique knowledge of Medi-Cal planning and asset protection that many other estate planning attorneys do not.

​Laura is a member of Estate Planning, Bankruptcy and Commercial Law sections of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Ms. Butkute believes that giving back will be a big part of her life. For years she has volunteered her legal pro bono hours in different senior centers throughout Southern California.

Some of our more recent cases

  • A client’s mother was in a nursing home but they preferred to bring her home.  We were able to get them approved for zero share of cost Medi-Cal and they were able to bring her home with Home Care paid for by Medi-Cal.

 

A client’s father was in a nursing home and improved to the point that he was able to be discharged but not able to return home to live on his own.  We were able to get him approved for zero share of cost Medi-Cal and got his assisted living paid for with Medi-Cal through the Assisted Living Waiver program.

A client who was a recent immigrant wanted to bring his infirmed mother from overseas to spend more time with his children.  He brought his mother who is not a US citizen to a California nursing home and we got her approved for Medi-Cal with no out of pocket cost.

  • A client was paying $14,000 per month on sub-acute care at a nursing home.  We successfully qualified them for Medi-Cal saving them $14,000 per month and got them 3 months of retroactive reimbursement for what they had already paid.
  • Avoided double probate for a client by filing a preemptive petition with the court for a deed of trust.  We saved our client $10,000 in legal fees
  • A client was in a nursing home and was denied Medi-Cal when their Medicare ran out.  They were going to discharge to home rather than pay privately for care.  We successfully fought the denial and qualified them for Medi-Cal, enabling them to get the care they need and have the state pay for it
